Fel-Orcs Turn Savage!
Wednesday, July 30, 2008 (281 reads)

Savage Orc - Fel Orc Style

The Big August Warhammer Fantasy tournament is upon us this weekend in Brisbane Queensland and the mighty Fel-Orcs are returning to the fray except this time there is a twist. They have gone back to their roots and turned savage. This article discussed the inclusion of Savage Orcs into my Fel-Orcs list and also includes my army list for the weekend's tournament and some commentary on various elements.

I am really starting to appreciate the variety available to greenskin generals and I am slowly getting my older models painted up in the Fel-Orc theme with my goal to have every unit type in the book painted up and used at tournaments slowly becoming a reality. Hope you enjoy the latest incarnation of the Fel-Orcs and I a really looking forward to giving them a hitout this weekend.

Ogre Kingdoms: ConVic Journey...
Monday, July 07, 2008 (309 reads)

 Maneater Paymaster

After several good successes with the mighty Fel Orcs I decided to field my beloved Ogre Kingdoms at ConVic. Australia's largest tournament held in the southern city of Melbourne. The Ogres have suffered from a lack of competitiveness since their introduction into Warhammer however for the players that field them they pose a fun, interesting and challenging army that is great to paint and look impressive on the field of battle.

There has been several instances of the Ogres gaining success, Jeff Traish, Gavin Clarke, Trent Denison and myself have managed to win tournaments with the Ogres but the wins are few and far between and a fair degree of luck in both match ups and terrain is required to do well with them consistently. This article is more a synopsis on my thought processes behind the army selection and the playstyle of both my army and Ogres in general. It also has a collection of photos of the latest ogres I have painted and some old favourites.

This Ogre army is different to anything I have fielded before so offers interesting insights into the Ogres from a different angle. I hope you enjoy!

Fel-Orcs Tournament Report: Fortunes of War
Thursday, June 05, 2008 (426 reads)

Black Orc Big Boss

Tournament number 5 in the "6 Tournaments in 6 Months" series saw the mighty Fel-Orcs wage war with the Alliance forces across the Olde World. Fortunes of war is a unique event where the players are divided amongst 2 factions (good and evil) depending on the army type they field. Of course the mighty Fel-Orcs were on the Horde side so this offered some unique challenges for the lads. Entering a tournament knowing that I would not face Vampires, Tomb Kings, Chaos and Skaven is a good thing, however it meant I would face more Elves, Empire and Dwarfs, and the extra shooting was surely going to cause me some grief.

Not having time to paint too many new troops I was forced to field pretty much my standard army, and had I had the time there were some significant changes I would have made. However the standard Fel-Orc army I have been taking all year has performed very well so I still entered the fray confident the boyz would hold their own and put in a good performance. History will show that the Fel-Orcs were going to suffer several demoralising defeats and the once impregnable aura of the army was to be well and truly hit a savage blow. Despite not doing well in the event I continued with telling the story of the Fel-Orcs as losing games is just as interesting and beneficial to the learning curve as winning and hopefully you will be able to share in my pain! :) Enjoy.

Fel-Orcs: Leviathon Tournament Report...
Saturday, May 10, 2008 (524 reads)

Black Orc

This article describes my journey through the Leviathon tournament with the mighty Fel-Orcs. Being the 4th article in my "6 tournaments in 6 months" series, the Fel-Orcs had by now gained a reputation for being very strong and an army my opponents would prefer to avoid! I had racked up some very good results against a variety of opponents and armies and entered Leviathon confident that once again I could do well and get myself on that podium.

In 2007 Leviathon was the only tournament that I fielded the Orcs & Goblins (my old army) and I did not do too well in that one, so it was good to return to the fray with a new army and a strong array of troops that would provide grief for my opponents. So on with the show!

Fel-Orcs: B.I.G March Report...
Thursday, May 01, 2008 (501 reads)

Converted Blood Thister and Savage Orc Shaman as a Giant

The 3rd article in my "6 tournaments in 6 months" series see my Fel-Orcs travel to the northern Australian state of Queensland and the capital city of Brisbane. B.I.G. March is a tournament that has grown significantly in 3 short years and in 2008 attracted a record 42 players. Tournament organiser Carwyn Llewelyn is a perfect example of a TO that listes to the players, is not afraid to try new things and his tournaments benefit as a result. This year he introduced the innovative idea of having a panel of 6 independent judges from various areas of the community to judge all the armies in the field and rate their composition. This had the double bonus of ensuring all armies were judged equally by the same people and also removed the necessity for players to judge composition during the event, removing inherent biases as well as helping to make the event run smoother.

I managed to win this event last year with my Ogres so was keen to defend my title in 2008, and with the form the Fel-Orcs had shown in recent times I was certainly in with a good chance of doing so. Two of my fellow Greyhawks in Lachlan MacWhirter and Evan Ferris were also making the trek north and we discussed the possibility of the three of us sharing the podium and making it a NSW/Greyhawk clean sweep. Now that would be sweet.

For the event I was fielding my standard build with a few tweaks from lessons learnd in previous tournaments and I was keen to get amongst it for sure. Without further ado I present my 3rd article in the series and I hope you enjoy!
